Hey Pie Lovers! I know you’re out there—and I’ve got some news for you. February is National Pie month, so what better way to celebrate than at a book store pie contest!

Do you bake a mean pie? Or maybe the mention of pie gets you dreamy eyed and salivating? Join me and the Farm & Fork Society at The Book House in Millburn on 2/24 to celebrate National Pie Month with this special event: Pies in Literature!

A pie is not just a pie. At least not in literature. With all its possible fillings, crusts, smells and tastes, the pie in your favorite book may not be dessert, alone. It’s often a literary device symbolizing a theme, like resilience or hope. It’s interesting to see when pie is used as a foil for darker messages of greed or revenge, which we don’t notice until it’s too late!

Come to The Book House on February 24th at 3pm when I’ll be reading from The Memory Box (from the pie scene, of course!) and discussing the symbolism of pies in books.

But that’s not all! The community is invited to enter their best pie in the Pie Contest! There will be prizes! And pies! And books! I can’t think of a better way to spend Sunday afternoon. Maybe you’d like to bake the apple pie from The Memory Box? Choose a pie from your favorite book, or from your favorite recipe. Or come by to talk about pies in literature. I’d love to see you!
