I was so happy to get this book, Unlocking Worlds: A Reading Companion for Book Lovers by Sally Allen for Christmas. And even happier when I started to read it because it felt like I was sharing a cup of coffee with a good friend, talking about great books and fascinating characters, riveting plots and beautiful language and discovering the similar experiences that we book lovers have when we enter another world made up of words. But nothing could prepare me for what I’d find on page 145. My book! #HolyShocker In Chapter 12: Novels That Thrill, Chill, and Keep You Guessing. There it is, as plain as the wide-eyed-gaping-mouth expression on my face! Talk about a thrill! What a wonderful surprise. I am so very flattered and incredibly honored to be in this beautiful book.
This is what Ms. Allen says about reading thrillers and mysteries: “. . . noting pointed details, bookmarking pages, trying to anticipate the next twist. We might need to work actively at the puzzle when we read books like this, keeping our wits about us so no clue escapes, but can feel enlivened by the vicarious danger and discovery.”
And my favorite line of her review of The Memory Box: “I will tell you that this novel is spine chilling. After I read the last word, I had to sit back for a moment, take a deep breath, and think of cute and comforting things, like kittens, baby hedgehogs, and chocolate bunnies to stop the chills running through me.”
This book is the perfect gift for book lovers. Sally Allen is the found and editor of Books, Ink at HamletHub.
